Relief from TMJ and Craniofacial Pain
54
Individuals who suffer from Craniofacial Pain, sometimes referred to as TMJ, usually suffer a great deal of facial pain, primarily in the jaw area. The first line of defense for treatment is usually a dentist. The list of symptoms for Craniofacial pain is exhaustive and includes some of the following:
- biting or chewing difficulty
- clicking, popping, or grating sound when opening or closing mouth
- dull, aching pain in the face
- earache, particularly in the morning
- headache, particularly in the morning
- hearing loss
- ringing in the ears
- migraine, particularly in the morning
- jaw pain or tenderness of the jaw
- reduced ability to open or close the mouth
- neck and shoulder pain
- dizziness
- numbness in extremities
- lower back pain
- pain in the eyes
The symptoms can happen on a regular basis, but each patient reacts differently to this disorder. Not everyone will have all of the same symptoms, nor will everyone respond equally to the same kind of treatment. There are many ways to treat it.
Due to the differences of the patient, there are different "trigger areas" which will cause the pain to commence. For example, if your problems are more in the eye area as some migraine headaches tend to be, or possible dizziness, the trigger points may be in the eyebrows. If your jaw is cracking and you have trouble opening and closing your mouth, the problems are more closely associated with the mandibular area around the molar teeth. Some dentists or doctors may try trigger point injections or other types of treatment.
Depending on how the TMJ symptoms should be treated, consult with a Holistic Dentist whose focus is to consider the "whole" body in the treatment of any one or two complaints. The pain in the jaw area could be connected to other areas of the body. A Holistic Dentist looks will look at the patient's health history and other areas to treat the symptoms.
